Onemorethingitis

July 13th, 2010

Right now I have 27 drafts of posts started.  Some are a single paragraph and others are almost complete. They sit, patiently, and they wait.  Why haven't I hit publish and shared them with the world? I'm suffering from Onemorethingitis.  Blogging, actually writing in general, is something I consider a "me time" activity and during the summer I feel like it's in short supply.  Not that I'm complaining, mind you.  Rob, Aidan and I have been having loads of fun lolling around the house and the swimming pool.  We've gone to movies, visited the Shark Reef and played with my cousins for a few days this summer.

Yet when I sit down in the evenings, instead of writing I think of a hundred other things I should or could be doing.  I have three Christmas projects to knit, another to scrapbook and a funny little gift I may decide to whip up for my bestie to congratulate her and commemorate her move from a workplace hellhole to what I hope will be her own personal dream castle.  I keep putting writing on the back burner and the longer I avoid it, the easier it gets.  The harder it is to sit down at the keyboard and let the words flow from my fingertips.

Tonight I am wide awake for the first time in a long time, so here I sit and yet a fresh topic eludes me.  Thoughts float on the edges of my consciousness like wispy little clouds. I can see them, but I  can't make out shapes and they're translucent and easily blown away.  I have gone through every one of my drafts in an attempt to finish at least one, but for now I just can't seem to connect all the dots.  I feel like an artist who has picked up her paintbrush for the first time in years, but has no clue where to begin and so I paint circles…and flowers…and stick figures until they become a picture that makes sense.

I am unorganized and scattered. My writing is a jumbled mess of half formed stories.  Plot lines and characters stumble over each other like so many people rushing on and off the subway at rush hour.  They brush past each other, occasionally colliding hard enough to knock each other back into their own tales, but mostly run along not paying attention to anything around them, carrying my stories with them on winding, random paths that have no end. I have every intention of going back and finishing the thought I left dangling….as soon as I finish onemorething. By the time I'm done, another idea has popped into my head and I start jotting it down only to trail off and leave everything hanging so I can finish onemorething.

Everything is stuck in my head, needing to be put to paper (or screen) and I'm afraid things are going to start leaking out soon. How much room can possibly be in my noggin? Sometimes I wonder what would happen if I took all of my characters and ideas, threw them all in a blender and mashed them all up.  What would come out? Something anyone would read? Probably not. So they stay separate, contained in different documents locked inside my laptop. The many drafts? I'll finish them…as soon as I'm over my Onemorethingitis.

What I Did On My Summer Vacation, Weeks 1 – 2

June 17th, 2010

We've officially been on summer vacation here in Digital land for two weeks and instead of being a nice relaxing, sit on the couch and veg out kind of time, it's been BUSY! That's not to say I haven't had some time to sit around and the truth is I've been neglecting my blog because of my new obsession with Frontierville on Facebook. Shut it.

When I'm not clearing the land and clobbering snakes and bears, I have been doing other stuff…

  • Getting myself elected Treasurer to our AYSO Region
  • Soccer sign ups
  • Getting my hairs did
  • Spending a night in Vegas with my local girlios. (blog post to follow soon)
  • Swimming when it's not windy
  • Reading – I have over 200 books in my TBR pile. I'm trying to whittle it down.
  • Knitting a bit
  • Crocheting 6×9 rectangles for soldiers  if you knit or crochet, consider getting involved.
  • Working out on The Wave
  • Cleaning out my closet – I discovered that I own 16 pairs of flip flops, yet I still want more
  • Play dates for Aidan
  • Volunteering for our local radio station's Food for Thought radiothon to feed underprivileged kids during the summer (technically this isn't until tomorrow, but whatevs)

I've been busyish, but I have lots of blog fodder running through my head. There should be updates a-go-go from here on out!

Scatterbrained

January 7th, 2010

I like to post at 12:01 a.m. to get the full value of a 24 hour period.  I seem to be approximately 12 hours late today. Oops.  What's the problem. Eh, I don't know what to write about. I have 24 drafts over there ——> in a file, but I don't like any of them.  I have eleventy billion partial posts in my head, but they're all ridiculous. What should I write about? Let's see…

  1. The greatest love story of all time.  I will finish this post and it's probably not what you think….or maybe it is.
  2. My 100 book goal
  3. The classes I have left and ow the hell I'm going to decide what to do for my Master's Degree
  4. Vampires, Werewolves and other beasties, oh my!
  5. Keeping Up With the Kardashians – my love/hate relationship with three girls who put "like" in every sentence at least 3 times.
  6. My Kanban board – pictures of sticky notes on a whiteboard – VERY EXCITING!

One of these will be my blog topic for tomorrow.  Today, I spent 3 hours filling in year end paperwork for a group I'm involved with and now I need to go take down more Christmas decorations. Yes, they are still up. Shut it. After that, I think I will burn a few brain cells on Facebook games and reading. The end. That should carry me through until tomorrow.

Wrapping Things Up

November 6th, 2009

It’s been a busy week and I have a million things to say, but nothing that will fill a whole post.  Rather than trying to spin little snippets of this and that into an enthralling blog post that will keep you riveted, here’s the bullet point version.

  • Monday I had lunch with Bossman to convince him that yes, I really and truly was leaving and no I absolutely, positively didn’t want to keep working, even on a part time basis. He finally got it! Score a point for me.
  • Tuesday I spent a good portion of my day working on my NaNo and I am quite pleased with the direction the story is taking. I have no title yet and I’m not quite sure where the story will go, but I like it.
  • Wednesday I watched Aidan get two awards at school and then came back to have lunch with Aidan and ended up the super star of the playground. It was loads of fun since I’ve known most of the kids for the last few years and they all had to show me their tricks on the monkey bars and how fast they could run.
  • Thursday was a follow up at Dr. B’s.  New prognosis for my plague is unclear. I was shipped off with orders for a CT Scan of my sinuses. The rest of my blood work shows that I am going to live. My organs are all healthy, blood looks good except for my cholesterol. AAARRRGGGHHH! Despite my vegan diet prior to having my blood drawn, it is still off the charts high. Shitfuckdamn, yo. So much for my attempts to avoid medication, I have a crisp prescription slip in my purse.
  • Friday is still unwritten. It should be a good one!

Hopefully, the new meds will have some positive effects, the CT will be clear or tell me I need my deviated septum fixed (maybe they can take out the bump while they’re at it!)

Meh, I’ll have a real post again tomorrow.

April 20th, 2009

I went to bed early last night. I have too much on my mind. I can’t focus on a subject long enough to yank a post out and ….ooh look…SHINY!
