18,337 Words, 31,663 To Go
November 11th, 2009
We are 1/3 of the way through November and that means by the end of the day I should have written 18,337 of my NaNo novel. No problem, my personal goal is actually 22,000 words by the end of the day.
Last night, I was reading what I had already written, going back to add or change a few words here and there and by the time I was done, I sat back thinking, “Huh. This is not how this story started in my head.”
Georgia is evolving and I like the direction she’s taking. The handful of other characters that are part of her world have taken on much greater, and in some cases very different roles, than I had originally seen them having.
As I write, things change. I just sit down and type whatever rolls out of my head and the story is not following the outline in my head. It’s rather liberating to watch my characters take on lives of their own and see them overcome hurdles and celebrate triumphs.
I’ve learned several things about my characters in the past few days, the next time I post a segment you may see some changes are revelations including these…
- Georgia’s husband, Landon died a year before I originally thought – important because, well I can’t tell you yet, but it is.
- My main man, Spencer, has a friend with benefits looming out there
- Two of my characters are lesbians who have been together for more than 15 years. One of the women was a VERY minor character until yesterday and she’s taken on a much bigger role in the story.
- Georgia is an excellent cook. Where’d she pick up that skill?
- The Boquet sisters (who you haven’t met yet) are teaching Georgia important life lessons every day.
I’m ready to start writing and see what Georgia, Larissa, Penni, Spencer, Megan and Spencer have in store for me today!

Come on, give me, give me, give me! We want to read
